At the bottom of the valley you can find beautiful Canonteign Falls a fantastic walk with a cafe at the end to refresh you before you bound off for further attractions. An ideal base for exploring the area there is much to see and do the historic regional city of Exeter is a 20 minute drive and offers a range of shops pubs restaurants and leisure facilities. Torbay has a choice of long sandy beaches and Dartmoor is well worth a visit for its rugged splendour and wildlife. Other attractions include Crealy Devon Castle Drogo Lydford Gorge River Dart Country Park and numerous National Trust properties. Outside: seating area to front of property. Amenities: ample parking. Newton Abbot is a market town in Devon, England. Located on the River Teign it is not far from Kingswerswell, Combeinteignhead, Ipplepen, Chudleigh, Marldon, and Bishopsteignton and is one of over 300 towns and villages in Devon in which Go2 has cottages or holidays lets available. The nearest designated cities are Exeter (population 106,772), Plymouth (population 243,795), and Wells (which has a population of 10,406 according to the 2001 Census).
The town grew rapidly in the 1800s because of its importance as the locomotive works for the South Devon Railway. This continued until the 20th century until the works were closed in 1981. Newton Abbot is also known for its racecourse which holds a number of important races. With its location near the coast and in the midst of an area of outstanding natural beauty Newton Abbot represents a great place to base a holiday in this region.
